Beaches


The nearly 300 beaches that are around the whole island, are one of the main motivations to come to Mallorca. White sand or rock, turquoise or crystalline waters.

The north of Mallorca are usually sand and stone, with crystal clear water. In the area of Levante, they are usually of fine white sand, with turquoise waters, some of them still virgin. On the other hand, the beaches of Mallorca have the peculiarity of being formed by the mouths of the torrents, since it lacks rivers.

Natural landscapes


About 40 percent of the territory is protected. Currently there are declared four natural parks, a nature reserve and two natural monuments. Most of these natural areas are also Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) and Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI). Among the most outstanding are:

  • The Terrestrial Maritime National Park of the Cabrera Archipelago, made up of 19 islands and islets. It is a strategic point in the migratory route of birds, with more 130 species, Cabrera has a large population of lizards, up to 22 are endemic to the Balearic Islands.
  • The S'Albufera Natural Park is the most important wetland in the Balearic Islands. It has an area of 2,584 ha and contains an important sample of the Balearic flora, with about 400 cataloged species and 230 species of birds.
  • The Natural Park Sa Dragonera. It is an extension of the Serra de Tramuntana separated from Mallorca. At its summit, the first Balearic lighthouse was built in 1850, which today houses an exhibition on the history of Mallorca's lighthouses. It also has a large marine area with large meadows of Posidonia, the only endemic plant in the Mediterranean.
  • The Natural Monument of Torrent de Pareis. The outfall of this torrent is one of the most impressive places on the island. The access is from Sa Calobra through a pedestrian tunnel that crosses the rocks. There is no complementary service as it is totally virgin. The beach is formed by gravel and small pebbles.
  • On the other hand, the Tramuntana mountain range occupies about a third of the surface of Mallorca and is a succession of steep mountains and fertile and peaceful valleys. It was declared in 2006 World Heritage by UNESCO in the category of Natural Landscape.

Places of interest


  • Serra de Tramuntana: Another way to discover Mallorca is to go hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana or by car or motorcycle from end to end visiting the villages of Banyalbufar, Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller / Sóller port, Pollença / Puerto Pollença and get to Cape Formentor to see one of the most breathtaking sunsets facing the sea.
  • The historical center of the city is where most of the important historical monuments can be found, the Cathedral (La Seu for the Mallorcan), the Almudaina Palace, the Arab baths or the Lonja. In addition, walking along its more than 700 streets, in the old town you can see more than 60 houses and palaces that are distributed from a central courtyard. There are groups that organize guided tours.
  • On the other hand, the Plaza Mayor is the nerve center of the old town, where the main pedestrian shopping streets, such as Sant Miquel, Jaume II or Sindicat Street, which extends to the commercial area of Alexandre Rosselló Avenue.
  • While touring the center of the city, it is an obligatory stop Can Joan de S'Aigo, a corner founded in 1700 where you can taste typical products of Mallorcan pastry at a good price; The Ca'n Miquel ice cream parlor, where they make homemade ice creams with more than 90 flavors or the Bosch Bar, a bar that opened in 1936 and is a meeting point for the people of Palma. Here you can taste tapas and homemade desserts and the famous "llagostes", a sandwich made with a typical bagel of the city.
  • Beaches. Around the island, as mentioned above, there are hundreds of coves that include Es Trenc, the longest virgin beach on the island, 3.5 kilometers long and 60 meters wide. It is of fine white sand and the waters enjoy a turquoise color as in the Caribbean. Other beaches that must be visited are Playa de Muro, Cala Agulla, Formentor, Son Serra de Marina, Cala Estellencs or Cala Mondragó. There are also beaches near the city that can be reached by public transport such as Illetas, Cala Mayor or Playa de Palma.
  • In addition to the beautiful beaches and the impressive Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca offers a wealth of attractions, monuments and attractions for all tastes. You can find archaeological sites such as Ses Païses de Artà or the only intact Roman theater in Alcudia, the ruins of Capdepera Castle, discover one of the largest underground lakes in the world in the Caves of Drach, the Monastery of Lluc, the most sacred place Of the island located in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana or the Cartuja de Valldemossa.
