Night life


The island offers a great number of pubs and night clubs within and around the city walls to enjoy the night life, including small entertaining bars with a great atmosphere. To go to clubs and discotheques, one of the night life popular places is the Paseo marítimo in Palma city, where you may find a varied number of local night bars.

The Santa Catalina town enjoys a lively town’s atmosphere with cosmopolitan restaurants for dinner or having a drink. Other areas to go out at night is La Lonja, a maze of narrow streets full of restaurants, cafés and bars. Here, you may find an intimate jazz club with real time live shows or the Abaco Cocktail Bar, a palace of the XVI century decorated with floral and fruit arrangements with classical music.

The majorcan night parties never go out of style. In summer, as if it was a guided route, the youth go from town to town searching for a party each weekend. These take place in the open, at night in a very casual and informal way where you may dance the night away. The so called “Party tour” starts with the Sant Pere festivities in Esporles at the end of June and ends at the end of September with the Summer Carnaval festivities or the ones of Pollença with its white party.

Shopping


Jaime III is by far the main street for shopping and it does not stop being so, but in the last few years the Paseo de Borne has become the most visited and important street to go shopping in the island. Shops such as Rialto Living, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Carolina Herrera, Relojería Alemana, Mulberry and Twin-Set have turned this luxurious promenade in a “designer’s street”, which is also known as the golden mile of Palma. The streets of San Miguel, Quint and the Avenida Alexandre Rosselló are also important referral points to go shopping for all kind of products and tastes.

In Mallorca, you may find big commercial centers with cinema rooms such as Porto Pi that hosts 140 shops, Festival Park Outlets where you may find great deals and in the last year, a recently inaugurated commercial center called, Fan Mallorca with various restaurants, shops and the only 4D format cinema in Mallorca.

Sports


The island has one of the leading sports facilities, the football stadium of Son Moix, the Palma Arena velodrome, the recent International Center of tennis called Rafael Nadal, different nautical clubs that surround the island and several golf courses. It is not rare to learn that Mallorca is the place of birth of most athletes, such as Rafa Nadal, Rudy Fernández, Miquel Angel Nadal, Carlos Moyá, Jorge Lorenzo, or Joan Llaneras.

Those who are very active have the possibility of practicing all type of sports because since it is an island, its sport activities cover land, wind and sea. In Mallorca, there is a great sports tradition in a great variety of activities, beach volley ball tournaments, tennis, sailing, hockey, cycling, athletics, swimming, football.

The generous majorcan winter climate brings every time more cycling teams to the island who confide in Mallorca as their preferred destination. This profile attracts attention to those that are passionate for hiking, mountaineering, Nordic walking and adventure sports.

Mallorca is recognized worldwide by the nautical contests that summer after summer take part in its coasts. Many personalities, such as the Spanish Royal family, attend and participate in the sailing competition (“regatta”) that take place in the island.

In Mallorca, there is also a strong hobby for horse riding. Its two hippodromes or racecourses, the Son Pardo in Palma and the one in Manacor, offer races almost all weekends.

Golf is also one of the tourists and residents’ favorite sports. It is so much so that this ever-demanding sport have made of the island a great venue in which new leading facilities have been developed in the last several years.
